Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu alias Sidhu Moose Wala was born on June 17, 1993, in the Moose Wala hamlet of Mansa district. Moose Wala’s fan base numbered in the millions, and he was well-known for his rap.
Moose Wala had an electrical engineering degree. He had studied music in college and had afterwards relocated to Canada.
Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu, better known as Sidhu Moose Wala, was a notorious Punjabi artist who got into issue for several of his songs reportedly advocating violence and gun culture.
Political Career
In 2022, Sidhu Moose Wala ran for the Punjab legislature from the Mansa constituency. He was a Congress candidate who was beaten by Dr Vijay Singla of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) by 63,323 votes.
Last year, just before the Punjab Assembly elections, Moose Wala joined the Congress. Moose Wala was described as a young icon and a worldwide personality by Navjot Singh Sidhu, the Punjab Congress chief at the time of his admission.

Sidhu Moose Wala was from Moosa village in Punjab’s Mansa district. His mother is the chief of the community. In 2016, he travelled to Canada on a study visa after finishing his electrical engineering degree in Punjab. His debut single, ‘So High,’ was released in 2017.
Moose Wala has been accused of encouraging gun culture and violence in his lyrics. In 2020, he was charged under the Arms Act by the then-Punjab government, led by Captain Amarinder Singh, for allegedly encouraging gun culture in one of his songs.
Moose Wala was arrested during the Covid-19 pandemic after a viral video allegedly showed him firing an AK-47 gun on a firing range.
Sidhu Moose Wala was also renowned as one of Punjab’s most divisive artists, openly supporting gun culture and praising gangsters in incendiary songs. His song ‘Jatti Jeonay Morh Di Bandook Wargi,’ which was released in September 2019, sparked a debate about a reference to Sikh fighter Mai Bhago from the 18th century. He was accused of casting a negative light on this Sikh warrior. Later, Moose Wala expressed regret.
With his song “So High,” Moose Wala got a lot of attention. His debut album, PBX 1, was published in 2018 and reached number 66 on the Billboard Canadian Albums chart. Following the release of the album, he began publishing his tracks on his own. His track “47” reached number 47 on the UK Singles Chart in 2019. The Guardian named Moose Wala one of 50 up-and-coming musicians in 2020. Ten of his songs have reached the top of the UK Asian chart, with two of them reaching number one. On the Global YouTube music chart, his song “Bambiha Bole” was in the top five. He released Moosetape in 2021, with tunes charting on the Canadian Hot 100, UK Asian, and New Zealand Hot charts.
